Job Summary

The Department of German Studies at Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2018. Area of specialization is open; candidates should be well versed in German Studies with the ability to teach a broad range of German language, literature, and culture courses from the Enlightenment to the present. Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year, maintaining an active research program, and participating in the shared governance of the Department and College. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to teach in the broader College curriculum through interdisciplinary courses and our First-Year Seminar program.

Qualifications

We seek an outstanding teacher who is able to relate to and inspire undergraduate students. A Ph.D. in German Studies or a closely related field by the time of appointment is preferred. Native or near-native command of German and English, evidence of teaching excellence, and an active research agenda are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach across disciplines and connect to other departments and programs. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, scholarship, or governance that they can contribute to the diversity of the campus curriculum and our community.
